Ecclesiastes 3:1 – To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

The all-wise Creator God and Father of light and truth has, in His sovereign will, ordained that all things in creation or connecting with creation should function within the framework of set time. There is an erroneous notion that higher spirit-beings (like angels for instance) do not have a sense of time. However, the reality is spirit-beings have a sense of time only that their sense of time transcends ours – the mortals (Job 1:6; 2:1). God alone is timeless in the ultimate sense of it; and eternity itself flows out of Him. But even God does compress Himself to fit into time in order to conduct relations with His creation.

In the light of the foregoing, it becomes clear that time is essential currency in the material and spiritual transactions of the universe (Ephesians 5:16; Colossians 4:5). And since prayer many times endeavours to thrust into the realms of the spirits so as to enlist the intervention of the supernatural, then time is of the essence. As it is written, “Call upon him while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6; Psalm 69:13).

Hence, I give you the following non-exhaustive list of five significant times of prayer that should be useful for every believer ().

  1. High Wind Prayer Time:

This is the moment when a sudden urge to pray grips a man. It can happen anywhere and at anytime (Luke 3:14). The spirit of this prayer time does not entertain questions or debate, just action. It hijacks you and your time (Luke 5:16; Ecclesiastes 3:5). If it chances upon you, you had better find how you to do the praying, whether very quietly or as loud as is socially responsible in the given circumstance. The spirit of this prayer is the spirit of the seers. It is essentially available to those who have been baptized with the fire of prayer. This prayer time usually attends to emergent issues (most of the time) only known to the Spirit of God. The power of the Holy One shocks you into prayer anytime He wants. It might even feel like you have lost control. But you are safe because the Spirit of Christ is in control. The Spirit of Christ is the spirit of prayer.

  • High Tide Prayer Hour:

This is typically the prayer hour of 12 noon. It has been said that, at this point when the sun is at its peak in a given time zone, the forces of darkness eagerly use the high cosmic energy of this hour to strike fast and hard against the earth men. When David prayed saying, “the sun shall not smite thee by day”, it is not as though the sun itself would smite man by day. Rather, the prayer referred to the operations of the vicious forces that exploit the cosmic power of the noon time to wreak havoc in the world of mortals. Psalm 91:5-6 talks of the arrow that strike at noon day; Job 5:14 speak of darkness in the day time and blindness at noon time. Hence, it is only smart for you as a Christian to raise the standard of prayer in these hours by invoking the power of the Sun of Righteousness which is Jesus Christ who is Lord of all.

  • High Explosive Prayer Hour:

This is about the hour of 2 am – in the dead of the night (Lamentations 2:19). It is a hour I believe is rather auspicious for special accomplishment prayers. Do you need something important done but it is proving difficult? Get into this hour of prayer with faith in Jesus Christ. Even the workers of darkness do exploit this hour to launch special attacks on their high value targets. So you would do well as a believer in Christ to tackle stubborn situations in your life in this hour. Maybe it is intimidation at work, or sexual bullying by a lecturer in school, or a case of household witchcraft, or a case of addiction, or harassments by spirit spouses – you just get up this hour with faith in the power of the blood of Christ to tackle and crush the situation, whatever it is.

  • High Fidelity Prayer Hour:

This is the hour of around 4am. It is typically a hour of anointing from above. Jesus made good use of this prayer hour a lot in the days of his flesh (Mark 1:35). Prayer even tends to be more productive during this hour because of the concentration of mind and focus of purpose made possible by the usual quietness of this time. This hour of prayer is best observed in solitary – alone!

  • Any Time You Choose To Pray:

Last but not least, it is necessary to stress the fact that anytime a child of God chooses to pray is a good time to pray. And the good God always hear the cry of His honest creatures. The strength of the other given specific hours of prayer really is more in the sacrifice of discipline and consistence they necessitate.

Now, pray this one prayer point with holy determination:

My Father, my Life-giver, as I begin to pray in the name of Jesus Christ, anoint me with the holy fire of prayer from heaven!
